Hello everyone,

I’m writing this because I need help. I’m trying to help my mother out of an abusive marriage. She’s been married for 8 years. In those 8 years, she has been physically, mentally, and emotionally abused by her spouse. He has complete control over her life: her finances (she hasn’t had a job in 5 years), travel (she doesn’t have a car and she lives 10 miles outside city limits), and communication (he owns her cell phone and is constantly turning it off). She has essentially been stuck at her house for the past 5 years. She’s alone and doesn’t have any friends where she lives, and she’s afraid of cops because of past experiences. Her parents are not supportive of her so she really doesn’t have anyone to turn to aside from me.

My mom and I were estranged for over 10 years. It’s a long story, but we got into contact 3 years ago. We met for the first time 2 years ago. I’ll never forget meeting her for the first time! We have so much in common, and it makes me a believer that many personality traits are genetic rather than learned. I also met my sister for the first time last year. It was the first time we had ever met, and we stayed up all night of the weekend talking and just getting to know each other. I love them so much, and I want to do everything in my power to help them.

This is where I need your help. She’s trying to get away. Her other daughter, my sister, is already at her parents’ house (in Iowa). I have offered to drive where she lives and pick her up to stay with me until we can get the money for her to fly up to Iowa too. This takes money; money that I really don’t have. She lives 6 hours away from me, and I’m not sure if I can afford gas. I don’t get paid until the 1st of the month, and my husband doesn’t get paid until the end of the week, and we need to pay rent with that money. I have about $100 to my name. I’m a full time college student with a part time job so my next paycheck will basically be all for rent.

I told her to contact a local shelter in her area last night so she can possibly get emergency shelter for the next couple of days until I can pick her up. I haven’t heard from her at all today, and I am worried her husband took away her phone so this will probably “go down” in the next couple of days.

I need money for gas, food (for when she’s with me), and to start saving to buy her a plane ticket. If you can help at all, even just $1,please think about donating. If you can’t afford anything, please reblog this.
